Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond), Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley), and George Van Valen (Ithaca) have been named the Alfred State Garcia's Barbershop Top Cut Athletes of the Week.
Bialecki had a big afternoon vs. SUNY Poly. She scored 32 points, grabbed 17 boards, and blocked eight shots. This followed a 10 points, nine rebound, five block performance in a victory over D'Youville. On the week she averaged 21 points, 13 boards, and 6.5 blocks.
Toliver recorded double-doubles in each of the Pioneer victories last week. He scored 10 points, passed out 10 assists, and grabbed six boards in the come from behind 75-74 victory over Keuka. He then had 15 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists in a 76-71 victory at SUNY Poly. On the week he shot 55% and averaged 12.5 points, 8 rebounds, and 9.5 assists.
Van Valen won his third tournament of the season this weekend and improved to 16-0 on the year. He won his opening match by injury default and then pinned William Oberschelp (Washington & Jefferson) in 2:30 and Avery Jones (Thomas More) in 2:15 to reach the finals. In the finals he defeated Isaiah Watson-Kirksey (Mount Union) 16-0.
