The Alfred State volleyball team earned their first victory of 2017 with a sweep of Cazenovia 25-20, 25-16, 25-14 in the first match of the Elmira Quad Match.
Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) led the Pioneers with 13 kills and 13 digs. She finished the night with a .423 hitting percentage. Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) had a career high 12 kills, Sarah Raichlin (Chenango Valley) passed out 25 assists, and Madison Webster (Corning) led all players with 25 digs. Morgan Hungerford (Lydonville) chipped in seven kills and Samantha Tumolo (Manorville/Eastport South Manor) passed out 10 assists.
The Pioneers collected 40 kills on the night (.236 hitting percentage) and registered nine service aces. The blue & gold hit an match best .345 in the 3rd set.
Alissa Rivera led the Wildcats with five kills while Mary Machugh finished with eight digs.
The Pioneers continue play at Elmira tomorrow with a pair of matches. They battle the hosts at 10 a.m. and SUNY Delhi at Noon.
