The Alfred State women's soccer team improved to 5-2 following a 1-0 shutout of Medaille on Tuesday evening. The shutout was the Lady Pioneers second straight and third of the season.
Alfred State outshot Medaille 11 to 1 in the 1st half but couldn't get one past Maverick goalkeeper Denay O'Connor.
In the 61st minute Kelsey Murray (Greece Olympia) sent a long free kick that bounced over the defense and allowed Kali Muhleisen (Alfred Almond) to have a 1 on 1 with the goalie. Muhleisen put the ball in the right corner to net for her 10th goal of the year.
Alfred finished the game with a 22 to 4 shot advantage. Krista DeCarlo (West Islip) made three saves for the Lady Pioneers while O'Connor finished with 12 for Medaille.
The Lady Pioneers return to action on Saturday when they host North Country CC at 5 p.m. The contest is part of Homecoming 2013 on campus.
