Missed Opportunities Cost Lady Pioneers

The Alfred State softball team could not capitalize on their scoring opportunities and fell 5-0 and 4-2 at Corning CC on Thursday in a Region III Division III match-up.

In the opener, Brooke Gustin was 2 for 3 while Rachel Slentz (Edmeston) was 1 for 2 with a double.  The Lady Red Barons scored one in the 3rd, three in the 5th, and one more in the 6th.

In the nightcap, Alfred jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st but CCC scored three in the 4th and one in the 6th to rally for the victory.  The Lady Pioneers had chances to add to their lead in the 3rd when they had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs but didn't score.  In the 6th, Alfred had bases loaded and no outs but did not score.

Gustin was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI for the blue & gold.

Alfred continues their busy stretch on Friday when they host Finger Lakes CC.  First pitch of the doubleheader is at 3 p.m. in Alfred.
