Erie CC won both halves of a WNYAC doubleheader over Alfred State on Saturday. The Lady Kats won the opener 8-3 in eight innings and then held on for a 8-6 victory in game two.
In the opener, the Kats led 3-0 heading into the 6th when the Pioneers scored a single run to cut it to 3-1. In the 7th, Aubri Mosier (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) singled home a run and scored on a Claire Hartman (Alden) double. Alfred had two chances to drive Hartman home from 3rd but were unable to do so.
ECC collected five runs on four hits and one error in the top of the 8th to put the game of reach.
Hartman and Mosier each finished 2 for 4 with a RBI while Katie Jackson (Troy, PA) was 2 for 5. Clarissa Swain (Dansville) struck out seven in eight innings of work on the mound.
Erie scored runs in each of the first four innings of the nightcap to jump out to a 8-3 lead. Alfred rallied with three runs in the 6th and had the tying run at bat when the final out was recorded.
Jackson was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 4. Mosier, Alyssa Roache (Sherman), Stephanie Pierce (Sherman), and Kristen Potter (Harrison Valley, PA/Northern Potter) all drove home runs.
The Lady Pioneers (3-13, 2-7 Region III Division III) return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Onondaga CC for a 3 p.m. contest.
