The Alfred State men's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Erie CC in the steady drizzle on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 3-9 on the year while the Kats fall to 5-7-1.
The lone goal of the game came 23:23 into the game when the Pioneers were awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box. Mitchell Porter (Alfred Almond) stepped up and sent the penalty kick past the diving Kats goalie. The game winning goal was Porter's second of the year.
Pioneer goalie Nick Smith (Arkport) made the goal stick recording his first shutout of the season with three saves.
Alfred State outshot Erie 14 to 5 on the day. ECC goalie Brandon Hackbarth made 10 saves.
The blue & gold finish the regular season on the road with three contests. The first is slated for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Keuka.
