The Alfred State athletic department has released the 2013 football schedule. 2013 is the inaugural year of Pioneer athletics as a provisional member of Division III of the NCAA.
Alfred State starts their 2013 football season with three consecutive road contests. The Pioneers play their first NCAA contest on September 7 when they travel to Ada, OH to battle Ohio Northern University. The next Saturday, Alfred travels to Concordia (MI) University for a game to be played at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. To complete the season opening road trip, Alfred battles Husson (ME) University on September 21.
The first home game of the NCAA era will double as Homecoming 2013 as the blue & gold welcome The Apprentice School to Pioneer Stadium for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
After a road trip to Williamson Trade on October 5 and a week off, the Pioneers play two straight home games vs. NJCAA Region III foes Erie CC (October 19) and Hudson Valley CC (November 2).
The team finishes off their season with road trips to Southern Virginia (November 9) and to Wesley (DE) College (November 16).
Alfred tangled with Apprentice, Erie CC, Hudson Valley CC, and Southern Virginia last season and have faced Husson and Williamson Trade in the past. The meetings between Alfred and Ohio Northern, Concordia, and Wesley are the first between the institutions.
The Pioneers finished their final full year in the NJCAA with a 5-4 record.
