Baseball Releases 2018 Schedule

2018 Baseball Schedule released.

The Alfred State baseball team begins a new era as the program makes its debut in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). The Pioneers are slated to play 40 games this spring with 18 of those games being AMCC contests.

The Pioneers will begin the season with a trip to Virginia Beach, VA in late February. They will take on Brockport and Virginia Wesleyan (2/23) and Ithaca (2/25). In between they are slated for a game at Christopher Newport (2/24).

A couple days before leaving for a spring break trip to Florida, the Pioneers will head down the road to cross county rival Houghton for a single game (3/6). The spring break trip begins with a game in Maryland vs. Salisbury (3/10) before beginning their Florida trip with a doubleheader vs. New York University in Tampa. The DH is scheduled to be played at George Steinbrenner Field, the spring training home of the New York Yankees. The rest of the trip will be played at the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, FL. The Pioneers will take on Bethel (MN), Newbury (MA), Wooster (OH), Skidmore, and Lakeland (WI) on consecutive days.

The northern part of the schedule features 27 games and begins with a AMCC doubleheader at defending champion LaRoche. The schedule features conference doubleheaders (AMCC conference doubleheaders are 1 - 9 inning game and 1 - 7 inning game) vs. Penn State Bradford (3/28), at Pitt Greensburg (3/31), at Medaille (4/3), at Penn State Altoona (4/6), vs. D'Youville (4/11), at Penn State Behrend (4/14), vs. Mt. Aloysius (4/21), and vs. Hilbert (4/25). 

The Pioneers will also play non conference games at Wells (DH - 3/25), vs. Houghton (3/29), at Keuka (DH - 4/10), vs. Fredonia (4/17), at University of Rochester (4/18), vs. Ithaca (4/29), vs. Elmira (5/1), and vs. Cazenovia (5/2). 

The top six teams in the AMCC advance to the counference tournament. The top two seeds earn a bye in the first round while the 3-6 seeds play in the first round on May 5th. The final four, played at the #1 seed, is scheduled to begin on May 10th.

The Pioneers finished the 2017 season 10-30 but won six of their last eight games.
