Student Athletes Well Represented at Honors Convocation

Numerous Alfred State Student-Athletes were honored at the college's annual Honors Convocation held last weekend.  Six Pioneer student athletes were named the outstanding student in their major.

Track athlete Steven Campbell (Chenango Valley) was the recipient of the Outstanding Student Award in CAD/CAM Technology and was also awarded the Brian C. Marashiello Memorial Annual Scholarship.

Soccer player Joe Markel (Arkport) was named the Outstanding Student in Financial Planning (BBA) and Vincent McDaniel (Arkport) was named the Outstanding Student in Business Administration (BBA).

Softball player Katie Jackson (Troy, PA) was the recipient of the Outstanding Student Award in Agriculture Technology.  She was also honored with the Mary Rauhe Annual Scholarship and honored for being a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

Soccer player Hannah Holmok (Alfred Almond) was named the Outstanding Student in Individual Studies and swimmer Maggie McBurney (Jamesville Dewitt) was named the Outstanding student in Liberal Arts & Sciences: Social Sciences.

Other student-athlete award/scholarship winners included:

  • Nick Andrus (lacrosse) - Praxair Designing the Future Annual Scholarship
  • Ethan Livernash (wrestling) - Marshalltown Trowel Co. Student Award
  • Khis Gregss (footbal & track & field) - English and Humanities Prose Writing Annual Award
  • Josh Stellrecht (swimming) - Leadership through Civic Engagement Award National Residence Hall Honor Society.
  • Michael Yacuzzo (soccer) - Arthur D. Shaw Memorial Award, Herbert D. Ehrig, PLS Land Surveying Scholarship, NYS Eastern Regional Land Surveyors Association Scholarship, & Niagara Frontier Land Surveyors Scholarship
  • Sabrina Dunning (swimming) - Dr. Khalid Ashraf Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Dominic Arresta (lacrosse), Joseph Carr (lacrosse), Trentin Reese (soccer), Spela Sluga (soccer), Madison Szpaicher (volleyball), and Keri Teufel (soccer) were recognized for taking part in the Alfred State Honors Program.

Dalton Thomas (soccer) was recognized for his induction into the Sigma Tau Epsilon honor society while Lacee Hill (soccer) and Madison McDonald (track & field) were recognized for their induction into Phi Theta Kappa.

Current Alfred State sport marketing intern Josh Simons (former wrestler) was also honored by being named the Outstading Student in Sport Management (BBA) 

The 30th annual honors convocation was held on April 12th in the Orvis Gymnasium.
