The Pioneers went 1-3 vs. to highly competitive NJCAA DI programs in Maryland over the weekend. The blue & gold was swept 1-0 and 9-2 by Harford CC on Saturday but split with Chesapeake College, L 12-2, W 1-0, on Sunday.
Colton Caldwell (Dublin, OH) tossed a complete game two-hitter to earn the Pioneers 1st victory of the season vs. Chesapeake on Sunday. He walked two and struck out two in the win.
Stephen Solomon (Harrisburg, PA) also pitched a dandy but was on the losing side of a 1-0 decision to Harford on Saturday. Solomon allowed five hits in six innings and struck out four.
Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) led the offense with a 3 for 9, 2 RBI weekend. The offense was held to just 15 hits on the weekend.

The Alfred State lacrosse team opened up their 2013 season with an impressive 16-10 victory over Mohawk Valley CC. The Pioneers led 16-2 at a time in the 4th quarter before the Hawks.
Brandon Griffin (Corning East) led the blue & gold with eight points on four goals and four assists. Frank Martin (Whitney Point) chipped in three goals and two assists and Dave Ford (Elmont/Sewanhaka) found the back of the net four times. Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) scored twice and was 4-2 in the faceoff circle while Bradley Murdoch (Auburn) had a goal, two assists, and was 13-6 in faceoffs. Nate Spoor (Penn Yan) and Marc Hernandez (Mastic Beach/William Floyd) each netted a goal while Michael Maranga (Rockaway/St. Edmund) was credited with an assist.
Mike Alessi (Liverpool) allowed just two goals in the 1st half while making eight saves to earn the victory in net. Paul Duthoy (Brockport) made nine saves in the second half.

The Lady Pioneers had the week off but will be heading off to Snowbird Softball in Myrtle Beach, SC at the end of this week for their annual competition.

Swimming: 14th at NJCAA National Championships
The Pioneers men's swimming team finished 14th with 143.5 points at the four-day NJCAA National Championships.
The quartet of Mark Pendleton (Beacon) Jacob Drew (Victor), Tyler Easterbrook (Bath), and Josh McDowell (Wayland Cohocton) scored in all four relays they entered. They were 11th in the 200 free relay (1:38.22) and in the 400 medley relay (4:01.73) while they finished 12th in the 400 free relay (3:36.95) and in the 200 medley relay (1:50.13).
In individual events, Pendleton finished 13th in the 1650 free (18:20.74) and 22nd in the 200 free (1:55.56). Easterbrook was 23rd in the 500 free (51.24), McDowell was 24th in the 100 fly (1:04), and Drew was 24th in the 100 back (103.80).
