Men's Basketball: 9-15, 1-9 WNYAC

The Pioneers split their two games this week defeating Medaille JV 83-64 and falling 81-52 to Monroe CC.

Marquis Chatman (Allen, TX) and Jamar White (Laurel, MD) each netted 29 points on the week while Tommy Hutson (Brooklyn/Susan McKinney) added 24.  Ben Wutz (Elma/Iroquois) grabbed a team high 14 rebounds.  Adam Fezza (Southhampton) scored 16 points and grabbed 11 boards this week.

Women's Basketball: 14-7, 5-2 Region III Division II 

The Lady Pioneers jumped out to an early lead and defeated Pitt-Titusville 70-31 in their only action of the week.

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) led the team with 18 points and 23 rebounds. Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) add 14 points and seven boards, Briana Meehan (Whitesville) chipped in eight points, and Jackie Lieb (Hornell) came off the bench and had eight points

 Swimming: Men 3-4, Women 0-7

The Pioneers compete in the Northeast Disticts/Region III Championships this weekend at Monroe CC.

Indoor Track & Field: 14 top three finishes at Ithaca Quad

 

The Alfred State indoor track & field team had 14 top three finishes at the Ithaca College quad meet. The Pioneers competed vs. Ithaca, SUNY Cobleskill, and the University of Rochester in the non-scoring event.

The Pioneers 4x400 relay team of Nate Andres (Pioneer), Josiah Thomas (Rochester/John Marshall), Cody Marvin (Bath), and Logan Phillips (Genesee Valley) won in 3:32.60 to pace the Pioneers.

Desmond Chambers (Rochester/Gates Chili) won the 200 m (23.03) and was 5th in the 60 m (23.03) while Frankie Bailey (Rochester/John Marshall) won the 60 m hurdles (8.80) and was 4th in the high jump (1.73 m).  Brian Edwards (Neversink/Tri-Valley) won the shot put (14.43 m) while teammates Robert Howard (Syracuse/Nottingham) was 2nd (14.25 m) and Leandro DelRosario (Brooklyn/Thomas Edison) was 3rd (13.37 m).  Richard Krouse (Eden) won the high jump (1.83 m) and was 7th in the long jump (6.13 m). Jayvon Larkin (Rochester/Wilson) was 2nd in the triple jump (13.70 m) while Thomas was 4th (13.05 m).  Travis Nagle (Randoloph) was 3rd in the high jump (1.73 m) and 3rd in the pole vault (4.25 m).

On the women's side, Tiara Summers (Staten Island/Port Richmond) and Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) led the way. Summers was 2nd in the 400 (1:03.49) and was 3rd in the 200 (28.06). Witchella was 2nd in the shot put (11.26 m) and 3rd in the high jump (1.35 m).

Wrestling: 2-7, 2-4 WNYAC, 4th at Northeast Districts

The Alfred State wrestling team finished 4th at the 2013 NJCAA Northeast District Tournament on Sunday. Conner Fox (Midlakes) finished 2nd in the 174 lb. weight class to lead the way.

Fox pinned Quoc Pham (Springfield Tech CC) in 38 seconds in his first match and then pinned Kojo Boadu (Mercyhurst North East) in 4:22 in the semifinals to reach the title match. In the championship match, Fox dropped a tough 4-2 decision to John Brabon (Niagara CCC).

With his 2nd place finish, Fox will represent Alfred State at the 2013 NJCAA National Championships Feb. 22-23 in DesMoines, IA.

Fox will be joined by Josh Simons (Campbell Savona) who received a wild card spot to the Nationals after missing the District Tournament due to injury. Simons will compete in the 165 lb. weight class.
