Cross Country: Competed in Alumni Meet
The cross country team celebrated Homecoming 2013 by running in their annual Alumni Meet. The Pioneers welcomed back over 20 alum back for the competition.
Powered by the running attack of Rasheed Williams (Swedesboro, NJ), the Pioneer defeated Apprentice 55-41 on Saturday.
Williams rushed for 335 yards and three scores on 36 carries to set a new Alfred State single game record. He scored on 8, 27, and 41 yard runs during the Pioneers 27-0 run in the 2nd and 3rd quarter that erased a 21-14 deficit.
Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) led the defense with 10 tackles, two interceptions, and a blocked punt while John Garbowski (Lakeland) had nine tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and an interception.
Greg Hampton (Uniondale) passed for 179 yards and three scores and rushed in for another TD. Ismail El-Amin (Rochester/Wilson) accumulated 157 yards on four kickoff returns including a 68 and 51 yards.
The Pioneers accumulated 624 total yards of offense on the day.
Men's Soccer: 1-6
The Pioneers fell in both of their contests this past week. They fell 2-1 in double OT to Keuka and then 5-0 to Wells.
Brian Markel (Arkport) scored the lone goal for Alfred vs. Keuka on a header after a corner by Colby Wright (Livonia). Nick Smith (Arkport) made 10 saves in net for the blue & gold.
Smith made 10 more saves vs. Wells but the Pioneers could never find the back of the net.
Women's Soccer: 6-2, #6 in the USCAA
The Lady Pioneers won both of their games this past week, shutting out Medaille 1-0 and North Country CC 2-0.
Kali Muhleisen (Alfred Almond) scored all three goals for the blue & gold while Krista DeCarlo (West Islip) made three saves in each game to record the shutouts.
Alfred State has recorded three straight shutouts and have four on the season.
Volleyball: 11-7, #8 in the USCAA
The Lady Pioneers finished a busy week with a 2-3 record. They recorded victories over D'Youville and Utica but fell to Elmira, SUNY Canton, and SUNY IT.
Lera Braun (Waterloo) led the way with 126 assists, 35 digs, and 25 kills while Mallory Eberhardt (Lyons) finished with 40 digs and 30 kills. Jessica Ramsey (Tioga) had a team high 62 digs and Ashley Hulse (Hammondsport) had a team high 11 blocks.
