The Alfred State athletic department has released the 2013 schedules for the men's and women's soccer teams, the cross country teams, and the volleyball team. Each schedule features a mixture of NCAA DIII, USCAA, and NJCAA competition.
The women's soccer team coming off a 17-2 season in 2012 opens up the NCAA DIII era at Alfred State with a August 30th contest vs. Lycoming College. The season opener will be the first athletic event as a NCAA member for the Pioneers.
The Lady Pioneers schedule features 17 games with eight of those games to be played at Pioneer Stadium.
The men's soccer team also will open up their season on August 30th when they battle Penn College at Pioneer Stadium. The blue & gold are slated for 16 games this fall with six played in the friendly confines.
The cross country team will look to make an impact in the USCAA in year one. The team is scheduled to compete in five regular season races and then compete in the New York State Collegiate Championships and the USCAA Championships.
The volleyball team will dive head first into NCAA Action. The Lady Pioneers will continue to host the Pioneer Classic but then will travel to four different regular season tournaments. The team will also play in a couple tri-matches on weekends while they will also play in dual matches in the middle of the week. The Lady Pioneers will host three dual matches at the Orvis Activities Center.
2013 is the first year that Alfred State is a member of the NCAA. The athletic department is also a member of the United State Collegiate Athletic Association (www.theuscaa.com) and will be competing to take part in their national championships beginning this fall.
