Alfred State Hosts 2nd Special Olympics Track Spectacular
The Alfred State athletic department hosted over 150 athletes representing seven different school districts at the 2nd annual Special Olympics Track & Field Spectacular held at Pioneer Stadium.
Athletes competed in one track event (400 m, 200 m, 100 m, 50 m, 25 m, and relays) and in one field event (shot put, softball throw, long jump, and standing long jump). Every athlete was awarded a ribbon at the conclusion of their event.
Volunteers for the event included: Athletic department staff, student athletes, professionals from across the college, greek life students, and various students representing a variety of clubs and organizations.
The 2014 event was double the size of the inaugural event held last year. The athletic department hopes the event continues to grow in 2015.
The Special Olympics is a partner of DIII of the NCAA. Through this partnership, Division III student-athletes across the country are encouraged to participate in existing Special Olympics events, create their own events, or otherwise serve to support Special Olympics organization.
