Baseball: 0-4 

The Pioneers opened up their season with a four-game series at Hagerstown CC.  The Pioneers battled the Hawks tough but were unable to pick up a victory.

Women's Basketball: 19-8, Region III Division II Runner-ups

The Lady Pioneers concluded the 2012-13 season with a run to the Region III Division II Championship game. The Lady Pioneers defeated Niagara CCC 41-40 in the semi's but fell 58-49 to Erie CC in the finals.

Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) scored with five seconds remaining to lift the Alfred to the victory in the semifinals.

The Lady Pioneers led throughout the game until the final minute when the Lady Thunderwolves capped a rally and took a 40-39 lead with 21 seconds after a Jessica Curry foul shot. Alfred was unsuccessful in their first attempt to take back the lead but was able to capitals with Fanning's game winning shot after a turnover by NCCC.

The blue & gold were keyed by their bench production. The Pioneers bench outscored Niagara's 24 to 4. Fanning and Sally Santiago (Bronx/Our Lady of Good Counsel) led the way with 11 points each. Santiago added seven boards. Eleasha Wiggins (Brooklyn/Bedford Academy) chipped in six points while Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) finished with five points, four blocks, and 10 rebounds.

In the finals, Alfred just 26.3% and ECC went on a 19 to 8 run to start the 2nd half.  Witchella led the Pioneers with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks while Fanning finished with 12 points and nine boards. Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) chipped in 12 rebounds, seven steals, and six assists.

Witchella and Fanning were named to the All-Tournament team.

Softball: 1-3

The Lady Pioneers opened up their season by winning one of four games at Hagerstown CC.

Swimming: Competing @ National Championships this Week

Four Alfred State male swimmers travel to Buffalo, NY to compete in the 2013 NJCAA National Championships.  Action starts Wednesday evening and runs until Saturday.

Track & Field: 23rd place at NJCAA National Championships

Desmond Chambers (Rochester/Gates Chili) and Travis Nagle (Randolph) both scored points as they represented Alfred State at the 2013 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships at Texas Tech University.

Chambers went into the long jump competition with the 5th best jump of the season in the NJCAA but was able to leap to a 3rd place finish. His best jump of the day in his last attempt measured 23'4" (7.11 m) and earned the Pioneers six points.

Nagle finished 8th in the heptathlon (seven events competed in two days) and broke his own school record by scoring 4,441 points.

Alfred State scored seven points in the two-day event in which 31 different college's scored points.
