Men's Basketball: 10-16, 2-10 WNYAC

The Pioneers split a pair of WNYAC games this week. They shot the lights out in a 100-82 victory over Jamestown Olean and then lost a hard fough 92-83 decision to Mercyhurst North East.

Tommy Hutson (Brooklyn/Susan McKinney) had a big week.  Hutson netted 24 points and grabbed seven boards vs. Olean and had 29 points, 6-7 from three-point land, vs. Mercyhurst. 

Jamar White (Laurel, MD) had 21 vs. JCC-Olean and 13 vs. Mercyhurst.

Women's Basketball: 16-7, 6-2 Region III Division II 

The Lady Pioneers ran their winning streak to four games with two victories this past week, 53-47 over Roberts Wesleyan JV and 63-54 over Mercyhurst North East.

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) led the teams with 40 points and 25 rebounds this week while Eleasha Wiggins (Brooklyn/Bedford Academy) tallied 11 ppg.  Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) returned from injury and netted 17 in the win over Mercyhurst North East.

Swimming: Men 6th, Women 8th @ Northeast Districts/Region III Championships

The Alfred State men's swimming team scored 150 points and finished 6th out of 11 teams while the women scored 15 points and finished 8th out of 9 teams at the Northeast Districts/Region III Championships over the weekend.

Mark Pendleton (Beacon) was 3rd in the 1650 free, 7th in the 200 IM (2:12.27), and 7th in the 200 free (1:58.69) to lead the Pioneers.  Josh McDowell (Wayland Cohocton) was 5th in the 100 fly (1:01.52) and 8th in the 100 free (54.85), Jacob Drew (Victor) was 7th in the 200 back (2:19.55), and Tyler Easterbrook (Bath) was 7th in the 500 free (5:31.73).

The quartet also swam to 3rd place in hte 200 free relay (1:40.41), 4th in the 400 medley relay (4:11.67), 4th in the 200 medley relay (1:52.49), and 5th in the 400 free relay (3:42.46).

Maggie McBurney (Syracuse/Jamesville Dewitt), the lone Lady Pioneer in the competition, was 7th in the 200 free (2:36.31), 9th in the 200 IM (2:55.83), and 9th in the 100 back (1:24.01).

Indoor Track & Field: Men: 1st, Women 2nd @ Region III Championships

The Alfred State men's track & field team won the program's 10th Region III Championship, first since 2009, on Friday.  The women's team was 2nd.

The Pioneer men scored 266 points in the competition to win over SUNY Delhi (200) and Mohawk Valley CC (76).

Desmond Chambers (Rochester/Gates Chili) had a big night as he won three Region III titles. He won the 60 m (7.12), the 200 (23.03), and the long jump (7.08 m).  His leap of 7.08 m in the long jump was 1st overall in the competition that featured 50 competitors.

Nate Andres (Arcade/Pioneer) won the 400 (52.99), Frankie Bailey (Rochester/John Marshall) won the 60 hurdles (8.90), Travis Nagle (Randolph) won the pole vault (4.21 m), Jayvon Larkin (Rochester/Wilson) won the triple jump (13.77 m), and Brian Edwards (Neversink/Tri-Valley) won the shot put (14.49 m).

The 4x400 relay team of Andres, Josiah Thomas (Rochester/John Marshall), Cody Marvin (Bath), and Logan Phillips (Genesee Valley) also won the Region III title (3:31.43).

The Lady Pioneers scored 142 points and trailed just Mohawk Valley's 176 points.  Delhi was 3rd with 70.

Tiara Summers (Staten Island/Port Richmond) was a double individual Region III Champion. She won the 200 (27.93) and 400 (1:03.36).  She was teamed with Caitlyn Hotchkiss (Springville Griffith), Jen Sanders (Arcade/Pioneer), and Nicole Lipa (Lockport/Newfane) to win the 4x400 (4:55.21).

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) won the regional title in the shot put with a toss of 11.71 m.  Megan Dillon (Angola/Lake Shore) won the 60 hurdles (11.52), and Sanders won the triple jump (8.79 m).

Wrestling: 2-7, 2-4 WNYAC, 4th at Northeast Districts

Conner Fox (Midlakes) and Josh Simons (Campbell Savona) will travel to DesMoines, IA this week to compete at the NJCAA National Championships.
