Alfred State Receives Region III Sportsmanship Award

The Alfred State athletic department was recently awarded the 2012-13 Region III sportmanship award by the standard and ethics committee.

Region III, which consists of 26 colleges, annually recognizes member institutions that throughout the year exhibit dedication to the honor and integrity of intercollegiate athletics and whose student-athletes and staff display outstanding sportsmanship during competition.

Alfred State was honored with the award in their final year of competition in Region III and in the National Junior College Athletic Assocation.  In 2012-13 Alfred State athletes earned 122 victories, had eight NJCAA Academic All-Americans, 14 NJCAA All-Americans, 12 Academic All-Region athletes, 66 All-Region athletes, 20 Academic All-Conference athletes, and 26 All-Conference athletes.  The overall GPA of athletes was a 2.61.

Criteria for this award included: No coaches ejected, no player(s) ejected multiple times, not on NJCAA “Probation” list for any sport, and no fines received for service bureau non-reporting or failure to participate in the All-Region balloting process.  Alfred State was one of nine schools that met this criteria and was honored with the Sponsorship 

In 2013-14 Alfred State will begin their first year of play in Division III of the NCAA and in the USCAA.
